And plus would the Packers be losing THAT much with Jordy Nelson over Driver? I really don't think so.

I don't understand the Driver situation also.

Seriously, all those that talked about how Driver got his deals done because he's a model citizen and deserved it, let's hear from you now.
He's no different than Ryan Grant, Tramon Williams, Javon Walker, whoever.
I guess I'm completely missing how these claims aren't completely independent of each other. Until this point, Driver had done things the right way, was a model citizen, and deserved it, and the team took care of him along the way. Now, this situation seems both strange and very poorly thought out by Driver. Again, not sure why those claims have to be intertwined at all. Mark Tauscher, MVP of the World. |

Well my point is that whenever a Packer made noise about his contract, people always trumpeted the name Donald Driver. And I remember him mentioning that he
wanted a new contract the first time (and rightly so), so all the Driver is a solid dude talk--so he deserves the money--and I'd rather give the money to a
lesser player who handled things the right way talk was wrong then, and now can be stopped. He's no different than anyone else on the team that wants more
money, who is pretty much anyone and everyone one at some point. That and his demands right now are ludicrous.

Again, I still don't see the connection. You're claiming that what he's doing now invalidates anything he's done in the past for negotiations, and I don't think that's true at all. Mark Tauscher, MVP of the World. |

Again, he DID talk about wanting a new contract the first time. The second time? No, and that came out of nowhere. So, again, he talked about it once
before, and he's doing it again, so let's stop bringing him up as the 'right way kind of guy.'
I've got nothing against Driver (other than these latest obviously flawed demands)...I'm more or less making these comments in regards to other players who are vilified somewhat around here...just go find the comments on this site about contracts. |

Talking about it and holding out/non-participating are two COMPLETELY different things. I think you're trying to make a connection here that really doesn't exist to counter a point of view that no one is really arguing. Mark Tauscher, MVP of the World.

Donald participated in OTA's today, and had this to say:
"I'm not unhappy. I'm not unhappy," Driver said. Asked whether he wants his contract reworked, however, Driver replied, "Yeah. What's wrong with asking? They (the Packers) can say no. I'm asking for it. If I get it, I get it. If I don't, I don't. It's no big deal." http://www.madison.com/wsj/mad/breaking_news/453607 Mark Tauscher, MVP of the World. |

It is somewhat annoying that for the third straight year Driver has issues with his contract, but if all he wants is some of next years roster bonus
guaranteed, that i don't see as any big deal.

Just because he's asking there is nothing wrong with that. There's pie to be had and there is no crime in asking for some. The problem starts when the
packers say "no" and the player starts to throw a hissy fit and hold out. I don't think this will blow up into anything even if Driver
doesn't get a bigger pay check

I wonder if we will see more players wanting contract extensions this season than prior years. With the uncapped season and free agency starting after 6 years
vs 4 there are plenty of players like Collins and Jennings who stand to lose some significant money without a contract at the end of this season. Conversely
there is incentive for the teams to wait if they have the rights to those players for two more years.

Collins attends minicamp
When asked if he'll attend training camp without a new contract, he said, "We'll see." McCarthy said he was in good physical and mental shape.

ESPN ran an article about Collins, and summarizes the Packers potential FA losses here.
The Steelers have a pretty heavy FA class as well. |

"There's a lot of guys coming up on free agency next year. I'm just glad somebody got it. Greg's a great guy. He deserves it. Hopefully,
things work out for me."
I don't know what else he has said, but you can't hold anything against a guy who talks like this. Obviously he wants a new contract, and if he doesn't get it he might not report to training camp. That's a sucky thing, but at least he's not out there calling out TT in the media.

Collins is in a tough spot. If they were still playing the 4-3 this year I'm fairly confident TT would have signed him to an extension by now or at least
given him some assurance that they were working on it. However, with the swtich to the 3-4 and the fact that he's getting paid over $3M this year he has no
leverage and the Packers can take a wait and see approach. I have no idea how he's going to respond to this change but if his break into the league as a
rookie is any indication it may take more than a full season which is time he doesn't have. Then again, the difference between a rookie and a 5th year
player is huge.
Maybe this is a good question for FTJ since his Steelers have the prototypical SS in Polamalu. What will it take for Collins to be successful? He's got the physical tools, it's the mental makeup that worries me. Is that the key? |

Here are my thoughts. 1.) Polamalu is a once in a generation talent -- it's pretty hard to replicate his production. 2.) Polamalu has played for one of the most creative DC's to ever grace this planet in Dick LeBeau. I think a lot of Polamalu's success is due to LeBeau's creative schemes... 3.) Polamalu has played in front of linebackers best decribed as "apocalyptic". I am sure that makes his job a lot easier. That said, I think if I could pick one Packer to play for the Steelers on D, it would be Nick Collins. I like him. I guess I don't know if he will struggle with the new scheme, but I think he is a good safety. |
