This is something I have been thinking about quite a bit lately, but since Thompson places such an emphasis on building from within, is he good enough as a talent evaluator to rely on the draft to build a successful organization? I'm pretty excited about the future (and present) of Clay Matthews, but what impact players as he drafted on defense? Jolly, maybe, and Collins has made the Pro Bowl of course but I don't think anyone was convinced by his 2008 performance to call him an...

Hill's arrest keeps him from getting drafted. Pressley may get a free agent deal. Newkirk isn't on anyone's radar, but he was forced to play out of position this year at DT but if moved back to DE might make it - he reminds me a little of Ross Kolodziej or Tom Burke.

Very interesting development. I can't argue with someone who thinks Crabtree is the best player in the draft, but wide receiver is quite low on the Packers' list of needs. I guess this really proves that Thompson is all about best player available. I still expect Crabtree to go to Oakland, but the possibility of drafting him is exciting.

The Patriots are trying to move up into the top 10 of the draft -- but low in the top 10. Executives from two teams tell me New England offered its first-round pick and middle of three second-round picks (the 23rd and 47th picks overall) to Jacksonville for the eighth pick in the draft. Jacksonville GM Gene Smith, I'm told, said no ... but I also hear the Patriots might be looking to Green Bay at nine to move as well.

Here is the list of invitees to Radio City Music Hall for day 1 of the draft. Some interesting names in there. I think Cushing is questionable and he could end up sliding a bit. The oddest choice has to be Josh Freeman getting the invite and not Mark Sanchez. Did something change recently that I'm not aware of?

Oh, and no B.J. Raji. Hopefully that means they think he'll fall...

You guys remember Terrence Murphy, right? WR drafted in the 2nd round in 2005 (58th overall) by the Packers, but suffers a career-ending injury in his 4th game on special teams. Yet I've seen numerous references to this pick being a "miss" or him outright listed as a "bust". I don't think that's remotely fair seeing that doing so implies the team should have the ability to foresee this catastrophic injury. Am I alone in this thought?

Ball State has a few interesting guys. Davis and Brewster sat out and stood on their combine performances.

TE Darius Hill measured 6' 7" and weighted 246 lbs. He ran 4.74 and 4.75 in the 40 and had a 31 inch vertical.

Miami (FL) doesn't have much interesting talent in this years draft. A far cry from years past.

Is he as one dimensional as Jamal Reynolds? I have seen more than one mock draft slot him in the packers pick. Should Packer fans be wary and what is the book on him? He seems more like a mid-to-late 1st round pick and not a top 10 pick.
